Gooey Butter Cake

Do not worry about how or what you are to say; for it will be given you in that hour what you are to say.  For it is not you who speak, but it is the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.  Matthew 10:19-20

I got this recipe from Paula Deen's website.  In my pregnancy, it sounded great.  Then I made it and couldn't bring myself to try it.  Somehow in the short time it took to make, it changed in my mind and sounded like eating worms.  (Isn't pregnancy wonderful :) )  So, I tested this on my family, parents and a few family friends and they all said it was an extremely yummy dessert.  It is very similar to chess squares but with way more butter, causing it to be more gooey.

Cake:
1 box yellow cake mix
1 egg
8 T. butter, melted

Filling:
1 (8oz.) cream cheese, softened
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
8 T. butter, melted
1 (16 oz.) box powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 350.
Combine cake ingredients with electric mixer.  Pat into the bottom of a lightly greased 13 by 9-inch baking pan.

In a large bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth.  Add eggs, vanilla, and butter and beat together.  Add powdered sugar and mix well.  Spread over cake batter and bake for 40-50 minutes.  Make sure not to over bake as the center should be a little gooey.

Serves 12 if cut large and tons if cut small.

Tips:
You can serve it warm or room temperature.  If you are cutting it into small squares for a "pick up" dessert at a party, let it cool so that it will firm up. (Sorry about the way this posted so spread out.  Not sure why & can't figure out how to scrunch it up!)
